UltraList 2.0 Features Screenshots

Lists View

When launching UltraList, this is the first screen you see.  It shows shows all of your lists. Lists with the icon are To Do type lists, lists with the icon are Shopping lists, Gift Giving lists are shown with the icon, and those with the icon are Checklist type lists.

You can create a new list using the [+] button on the top right. After pressing this button, you can choose the type of list you would like: To Do, Checklist, Shopping or Gift Giving.

Located at the bottom of this screen is a [Locations] button that allows you to add new locations.

The [Edit] button allows you to reorder the lists and also rename a list. While in Edit mode, touching a list name will allow you to edit its name.

The [Action] button provides access to other functions that are global to the application, such as Settings, Help and Backup/Restore.

To Do List

Here is an example To Do list. For each To Do item, it shows its Title, Due Date, Notes and Priority. If an item does not have a Due Date, Notes or Priority, a more compact view is used.

This particular view is one grouped by Due Date. In this grouping, the Past Due items are grouped first, followed by the due Today items, followed by due Tomorrow, Within 7 days, Within 30 days, Beyond, and finally those without a due date.

To check off an item, you simply touch the checkbox next to the title.

Checking off an item will make it grayed and crossed out indicating it is complete. Also, it will automatically move to the bottom of its particular group (or to the bottom of the list if no grouping).

Editing an item is done simply by touching the title area of the item. This will bring up the Item Edit screen where you can change the different fields of the item.

The [Edit] button allows you to delete items or move items. When items are grouped, moving an item from one group to another changes that aspect of the item. For instance, referring to the screenshot to the right, if you moved "Finish report" to the "Tomorrow" grouping, its due date would change to Tomorrow. This works the same for all lists when moving items from one group to another.

The [Action] button brings up a menu that allows you to perform various actions on the list such as sorting, grouping, email, etc.

To Do

Shopping

This is an example of a Shopping list (using the Shopping list type)

By the way, for users of version 1.x of UltraList who used Checklists for shopping lists, you can convert a Checklist to a Shopping list by opening the list and choosing the "Convert" action under the Action menu, then selecting "Shopping" to convert it to a Shopping list.

In this example, we have used the "Category" field for each item to indicate which part of the store the item can be found. Then we grouped the list by "Category" by going to the [Action] button, selecting the Group action and choosing "Category".

Another advantage of grouping by Category is that now you have an "Add Item" for each category. Using this to add a new item will automatically set its category to that category.

Items can also be grouped by location, or a combination of Location and Category.

Gift Giving

This shows an example of an item in a Gift Giving list. Each item can have a title ("Snowboard" in this example), the receipient, the give date, how many days prior to the give date to be reminded, the occasion, whether you are just thinking about this gift, model number, color, size, location and notes.

List Action Menu

Actions are specific things you can do on a list, such as change the way they are sorted or grouped, or even change which items are shown and which are hidden (using the Show/Hide mode shown below).

When touching the [Action] Button, it brings up the menu as shown in the screenshot.

Here is a description of the actions:

  • Sort: Allows you to sort the items in your list by different criteria (depends on the type of list).
  • Group: Allows you to group the items by some value, where each type of list has different group options. Experiment with each group option to see how many different ways you can view your items. Each grouping has an \"Add Item\" button that allows you to add an item to that grouping, conveniently setting the value associated with that grouping automatically.
  • Proximity: When your list is grouped by location, turning this on will sort the location groups by their proximity to your present location (a gray box will appear when it is trying to find your current location).
  • Show/Hide: Sometimes when using a list you don't want to see all items in a list. This feature allows you to show or hide items in your list. This is useful if you want to have a shopping list, for instance, where you want the list to contain all items that you like to buy, but for a particular trip to the store or stores, you only want to view those items you wish to buy at that time.
  • Hide Checked: Hides any items that are currently checked off.
  • Mail: Allows you to email a list. Currently this is just a simple text based email and you are directed to the iPhone/iPod touch Mail application to send the email that UltraList creates. Only items that are shown are included in the email (those hidden using the Show/Hide feature are not included).

Lists of type Checklist have these additional actions:

  • Convert: Converts a checklist into either a To Do, Shopping or Gift Giving list.
  • Check All: Simply checks all items in the list as complete.
  • Uncheck All: Simply unchecks all items in the list as incomplete.

Show/Hide Items

Again we use our shopping list as in the previous screenshot. However, notice that we have green checkboxes and have more items in our list. This is because we are in the Show/Hide mode. To enter Show/Hide mode, simply touch the [Action] button then choose the "Show/Hide" action.

In Show/Hide mode, we see every item in our list. Any item checked off in this list (with the green checkbox) will be shown in our list when we first open it (when we are not in this Show/Hide mode that is).

This is really useful if you want your list to contain all items that you regularly shop for, but for a particular trip to the store, you only want to show certain items that you want to buy for that trip.

Use the [Select All] button to check off all items (which will cause them all to show in the list) or [Select None] to hide them all. Typically, before starting a trip to the store, you would choose the [Select None] (to hide them all) then check off only those you wish to buy at the store for this trip.

When you have chosen which items to show or hide, you simply hit "Done" and you will be returned to your list with only those items showing that you selected.

Locations

Locations are places that you like to go, or places you would like to associate with items in your lists.

In the main locations screen, the locations can be sorted in three different ways: Ordered, Proximity and Name. The sorting you choose will also be the sorting when choosing a location for an item.

When sorted as "Ordered", the locations can be sorted manually (using the [Edit] button, then moving the locations up and down the list).

When sorted as "Proximity", locations will be sorted by their proximity to your current location (as shown in the screenshot). In this mode, the distance from your current location to those in your list is also displayed. (Note: this is a straight line distance NOT driving distance). The area just above the table shows your current position.

When sorted by "Name", the locations are sorted in alphabetical order.

You can add a new location using the [+] or can edit an existing location just by touching it.

For each location you enter, you can specify its GPS coordinates, either manually or by setting it to your current location.
